Welcome back to term 2! Special welcome to our new families who have joined MSS this term including our new year 6M teacher Ms Ainslie Fraser and Ms Vanessa Boxshall in our Disability Support. The start of term 2 has already been a busy one with students engaged in their new units of work, our Year 6 Leadership days at Tinaroo and our ANZAC day parade. Special mention to our invited guests Councillor Danny Bird and Colin Carson from the Mareeba RSL for joining our service and a big thank you to Mr Nielsen for organising this significant event. Well done and thank you to the staff and students who joined me at our Mareeba Community ANZAC service. Your representation of our school given the weather was very pleasing.
Just a reminder that vaccine mandates are still current for all DoE staff and visitors even though the Qld Government have changed the conditions to vaccinations for other areas. Note this does not include parents or students but is a requirement for parents who volunteer in the classroom. Each Friday notification of positive COVID case numbers will be sent to families via email until advised otherwise from Qld Health. Below are the current COVID guidelines we are following from tomorrow 28th April:
- If a staff or student test positive to COVID they must quarantine for a 7-day period. A COVID test is not required at the end of the isolation period. Staff are welcomed to return to work if they have no symptoms and are well.
- Close contacts who are asymptomatic will need to wear masks outside their home for seven days and will need to return a negative COVID-19 test result every second day with testing to commence on the first day of being a close contact. Asymptomatic household members do not need to quarantine.
- Close contacts who have symptoms of COVID-19 will be required to test and to isolate until symptoms resolve, even if a negative RAT result is returned.
- For 7 days after ending isolation or quarantine, staff and students (12 years and over) who return to their school or workplace after having COVID-19 or as close contacts are required to wear a face mask anywhere indoors or outdoors where unable to physically distance.
Each year teachers count on parent voluntary contributions to assist them to be able to supplement engaging activities in their classrooms. Your voluntary contributions pay for, amongst other things, Art and Science materials that support fun and engaging activities for your children. Paint, ingredients for Science experiments, classroom games and special activities are all afforded through your contributions. These contributions provide each classroom with a budget for those extra resources which teachers may not otherwise have access to. Voluntary contributions are able to be paid in instalments or in one full payment either through the school office or by direct debit. This year the contributions are set as follows: - $50 per student or - $120 per family. The account details for direct deposit are: BSB: 064-812 Account no - 0009 0302, *please NOTE when making a direct deposit payment you must be extremely clear what it is for. We really appreciate your support in making these contributions and would like to especially thank those families who have already made their contribution for this year.
