This fortnight we have had some wonderful celebrations of culture, sporting achievement and curriculum. Highlighting our very own Mareeba dance groups, our NAIDOC celebrations focused on the 2021 theme for NAIDOC - 'Heal Country, heal our nation, calling for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage'. This wonderful event was an opportunity for our school to embrace this ancient culture and for students to learn about ways in which the Mareeba SS community can help to heal country, heal our nation.
The amazing student talent continued last week with our Mareeba SS students participating in the Tablelands District Athletics Carnival held in Atherton. Congratulations to everyone who participated over the 2 days. We had a number of student shine in both track and field events and look forward to wishing them well as they progress to the Regional level. Well done also to our wonderful year 1 cohort who hosted their 'Very Blue Thingamajig' character afternoon, making character costumes and partaking in a whole cohort reading session while growing their knowledge of adjectives. Mareeba SS is widely recognised for our Inclusive approach to education, ensuring that every day every child is learning and achieving. This year, the staff at Mareeba SS have collaborated to create our Mareeba SS definition of Inclusion. At Mareeba SS, Inclusion is acknowledging, respecting and supporting our diverse school community to grow and succeed. Over the next term our school staff and students will unpack what this means and outline key behaviours that each and every Mareeba SS member will demonstrate to foster our inclusiveness. Families will be also given the opportunity to help identify these behaviours.
Families would have received an email invitation to participate in the annual School Opinion Survey. Survey dates have been extended until this Friday, 6th August. To date, we have had 102 families respond to the survey and would love to see this number rise before Friday. More information about the School Opinion Survey can be found in my Sizzling Spotlight here.
