Welcome back to Term 2!
Special welcome to our new families who have joined MSS this term including our new year 6M teacher, Ms Joycee Riches. The start of term 2 has already been a busy one with students engaged in their new units of work, our Year 6 Leadership days at Tinaroo, our term 2 Artie attendance launch as well as our Discotheque celebration for students who attended school 95%+ in term 1. For more information on attendance at MSS, check out my Sizzling Spotlight on attendance found on the Mareeba SS website.
Last week our school commemorated ANZAC Day. Thank you to everyone who participated in our school Anzac Parade on Friday. Special mention to Mr Harvey who spoke with such emotion about the importance of Anzac Day. I was humbled by the demonstration of respect by each and every student during our parade and I appreciate the effort that each of the classes go to, to commemorate this significant day on the Australian calendar. Thank you also to Mr Nielsen and the school leaders for organising the event. Finally, a huge thank you also to those students and their families who joined us in the Mareeba community Anzac commemoration ceremony.
Each year teachers count on parent voluntary contributions to assist them to be able to supplement engaging activities in their classrooms. Your voluntary contributions pay for, amongst other things, Art and Science materials that support fun and engaging activities for your children. Paint, ingredients for Science experiments, classroom games and special activities are all afforded through your contributions. These contributions provide each classroom with a budget for those extra resources which teachers may not otherwise have access to. Voluntary contributions are able to be paid in instalments or in one full payment either through the school office or by direct debit.
This year the contributions are set as follows: - $50 per student or $120 for a family of 3 or more children. The account details for direct deposit are: BSB: 064-812 Account no: 0009 0302. We really appreciate your support in making these contributions and would like to especially thank those families who have already made their contribution for this year.
