With a late newsletter last fortnight, it's hard to image that we have achieved so much. This fortnight our students, staff and community once again shared their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, showcasing a wonderful display of dance, information and history. Ms Diedre Brumby our Cultural Liaison Officer supported our Indigenous Leaders and Cultural Ambassadors to host the event and assisted in guiding our dance groups through many practice sessions and for that we are very thankful. Thank you also to the rangers from the Western Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation Group who shared their work and provided a special Didgeridoo performance.
On Friday our Prep students celebrated their 100th day of school with an 'olden days' theme. We had many 'little' old people enjoying a piece of celebration cake and participating in a range of rotations from making fairy bread, a 100 days crown and much more. For our Year 4 & 5 students they were lucky enough to take a trip to Mareeba SHS for a matinée of their 2022 Variety Show. From all accounts it was a great show!
Mareeba SS is widely recognised for our Inclusive approach to education, ensuring that every day every child is learning and achieving. At Mareeba SS, Inclusion is acknowledging, respecting and supporting our diverse school community to grow and succeed. We know that to achieve this, our behaviours need to match this. We encourage all of our students, staff, families and community members alike to recognise these behaviours as our expectations and demonstrate these 'day in, day out'.
The countdown is on until our Mareeba State School Fancy Dress Ball next Friday 12th August, 6-8:30pm. Volunteers & donations are still needed for the night.
