What a fantastic start to Term 4 we have had with our Attendance. Currently our whole school attendance is sitting at an average of 84%! We believe we can improve this percentage, with your help. At Mareeba State School our focus on Attendance isn't only narrowed down to physical attendance, we use a range of strategies to suit our local community and school, these approaches include
- Focusing on teaching and learning in the classroom and the adjustments teachers use to to improve student engagement in class and at school
- Focusing on administrative processes to assist in monitoring student absences
- Using IT systems to assist with alerting (SMS) parents and carers of Unexplained Absences
- Allocating staff to work with students, families and external organisations
- In class programs that involve students in monitoring their own attendance % (ARTIE)
- Rewards for students with good and improved attendance
- Intervention strategies to assist students and their families with external support on attendance.
MSS staff are committed to ensuring our students value their attendance as much as our staff and community do.
Absences add up, missing just 2 days a month means a child misses 10% of the school year.
We believe every student deserves the same opportunities to learn every day, in every class room. At Mareeba State School, we all belong.
