Well, that's a wrap for CGEN 23'. WOW! What an amazing experience our CGEN students have had over the past week. MSS & MSHS CGEN Signing Choir students have been very busy since Term 2, rehearsing three songs before and after school; as well as fundraising for their four performances over three days from 13th -15th July at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. They were all very excited and nervous at the same time, not knowing what to expect. Some of our students have been involved with MSS CGEN Signing Choir for five years!
It was a very long and busy week in Brisbane, but very rewarding. It was wonderful to see our students supporting each other during rehearsals and performances. Students made new friends from other schools and it was fantastic for our LOTE (Auslan) students to be immersed in Deaf Culture. At the beginning of the week, we saw shy students keeping with their own school group. Fast forward to the end of the week, and their confidence grew and they were signing with their new friends. We are very proud of our MSS & MSHS CGEN students' commitment towards the Creative Generations State School program. Thank you to the local businesses who have sponsored or donated money as well as the Mareeba community for supporting the MSS CGEN Signing Choir's fundraising efforts to assist families to travel to Brisbane.
Thank you also to Miss Susi for your invaluable experience teaching our students how to sign the songs. As well, this was your fifth year conducting the performances with Miss Fletcher and Mr Courtney (Toowong State School) on the BCEC huge arena. What an amazing opportunity! Thank you Miss De Tournouer and Miss Mel (MSHS) for all of the backstage support. Lastly, thank you to our wonderful CGEN parents for helping your child/children on their CGEN journey. 'The show must go on.'
Take a look of what some of our CGEN students have said about their 2023 CGEN experience.
