As we wind-down towards the end of Term 2, families are reminded that we still have a number of events for students to participate in. Next week our 4-day action-packed Years 3-6 athletics carnival will take place on Tuesday 13th through to Friday 16th June. This year our athletics carnival is a little different with some events occurring off-site due to our wonderful Brady Park upgrade. Families are encouraged to carefully read over the athletics day information that has been emailed to families and to closely monitor our Facebook page for regular updates. Our Prep-Year 3 athletics carnival will be held in week 10 along with our annual 'Round of Maths Destruction' which will run the same as our Spelling Bee using maths questions. Families are also welcome to watch this great competition with the times for each year level available on our Facebook page.
And while we have lots of activities yet to come, this past fortnight saw our students participate in many great events including our signature event, our Year 6 High Tea and our Reconciliation activities including our Free Dress Day last Tuesday. School photos were also very successful this year with 91% of students attending school on Wednesday for our photos! This fortnight we also welcomed the Mareeba State High Staff to our school for Year 7 enrolment interviews as well as some teachers from across the state who are aspiring to be School Leaders who visit Mareeba SS to see the great work of our Leadership team. The aspirants this year were very keen to learn more about the Mareeba Way and had lots of questions for our team.
I mentioned earlier about The Mareeba Way. When our review team come in July, they will speak to our families about The Mareeba Way. This is the way we work as a school and community and the great things we do. The review team will chat to families during pick up and drop off times and will want to talk about some of the following:
· Our 'I Respects' and expectations
· Our 'PayWay' system and how students get the green and gold tokens to purchase prizes
· Our connections with our families such as our wonderful P&C, our PEGs group and our Yarning Circle at the Yumba Church
· Our connection with the community such as our food sponsors in The Hungry Pug, Coles and Brumby's Bakery
· How we support our families to connect with support agencies such as Mulungu, VPG, Mareeba Community Centre and so many more
· How our teachers and staff provide feedback to our families about their child's learning
During our 3-day review, as a parent you are welcomed to chat to one of the 3 reviewers we have at school. If you would like to be added to the call list, please contact the school on 4092 8100 so we can add you to the list.
This year due to our Brady Park upgrade, our biannual school fete has had to be re-designed due to our limited space. This year we will be hosting a Family Movie Night with great food, fete style stalls and a latest release movie. Be sure to add the date to your calendar - Friday 11th August. This wonderful event is coordinated by our Mareeba SS P&C who are working hard to source donations for our monster raffle and prizes. If you would like to donate a prize for our raffle, please drop this to our front office or call the school on 4092 8100 to arrange a collection time. Keep up to date with information on our Facebook page or come along to a P&C meeting. Our next meeting is Wednesday 21st June at 5pm in the staffroom.
