About the P&C

What is the P&C?
Mareeba State Primary School's Parent and Citizens Association (P&C) is an important part of the school that provides the necessary link between the school and parents, carers and the community.  The P&C conducts fundraising activities throughout the year, with funds raised going to support the school.

Why join the P&C?
By joining the P&C, you are showing your children how committed you are to helping students and your school community.  Participating in P&C activities can also help you to form friendships with other parents/carers and feel a part of your school community.  Only registered members have the right to vote on issues raised at meetings.

What is required of members?
For those who think "I don't have time"...
Members of the P&C can be as involved as they like!  Meetings are held once a month for around an hour and are not mandatory to attend.  Having a large number of members increases opportunities when applying for grants to supply much needed school improvements.

What has the P&C done for the school in the last few years?

  • Supply and replace fridges to all classrooms for student lunches
  • Cover bus fares for school excursions to reduce the overall cost for families
  • Replace Soundfield systems for three classrooms
  • Funded wireless internet throughout the school
  • Supplied representative sports uniforms
  • Funded students to attend extracurricular activities including CGEN and sporting activities
How do I join?
Please complete a membership form, which can be collected from the school office or downloaded by clicking here.

From the P&C President...

We welcome this opportunity to introduce you to the key activities and values of the Mareeba State School P&C Association. Our school is very fortunate to have a strong and productive working relationship between the P&C and our highly profes-sional teaching fraternity. We work equally hard at connecting with parents, carers, students and the community to promote the broad interests of our school.
The P&C works with the school:
  • to organise and support a range of functions during the year to raise critical funds and to foster a healthy and fulfilling school culture. These include the very popular and family focused Fancy Dress Ball, the biennial Fete and the Awards Night – including an assortment of other activities interspersed throughout the year
  • by providing additional resources to be used to improve student learning
  • providing parents and carers with the opportunities to be involved in their child’s education
We hold monthly general meetings (usually every 3rd Wednesday) during school terms, beginning at 5:00pm in the Staff Room. Membership to the P&C Committee is free. Joining the P&C not only allows you to keep informed about school activities but it is essential if you want to contribute to decision-making. As a member, participants are entitled to raise issues and vote at meetings.

We understand that you may not have time to attend meetings but may be able to help out by volunteering a few hours at the Tuckshop or school events, and this is always greatly appreciated. The more people we have on board helping, the
greater the benefit is to the children.

The P&C always welcomes new faces and fresh ideas. Please do not hesitate to contact us in person or by email mareebasspandc@gmail.com should you wish to become involved or have any suggestions to offer which will benefit our school.
