Cre8tive Club

Cre8tive Club is a lunchtime program that engages students in problem solving, creative thinking and team-building activities in a fun learning environment.

Students work together brainstorming, designing, thinking critically and reflecting through set tasks. They present their outcomes in creative ways such as through drama, discussions, visual arts and persuasive discussions. This year, Cre8tive students have and will be involved in many exciting events.

Global Schools Forum

The Global Goals Primary Forum is a full-day design sprint for students in years 5 and 6, designed to deepen their understanding of local and global issues and develop their global competence. The challenge put to students is how might we design sustainable community services for the future? This year, six students represented Mareeba State School in the second ever Global Schools Forum at Edge Hill State School.

Reader's Cup

The motivation for the Reader's Cup is to get kids reading and to let the readers in our schools have the opportunity to shine. Students are given a selection of books to read. They meet each week to talk, ask questions and reflect on books they have read from the selected list, and share the love of reading with like-minded peers.

Teams of four students from schools around our region compete by answering questions about the chosen books. To be the winner is a wonderful achievement, but every child will be a winner if they have enjoyed the experience and have read titles they may not have encountered before.

CHOOSEMATHS Student Awards

The CHOOSEMATHS Student Awards celebrate mathematical achievement, creativity and excellence in Australian schools. The awards encourage students to get creative as they step beyond the classroom to bring their understanding of mathemetics to life on film.

We get students buzzing with conversations about mathematics as they use their imagination to create and submit a 3-5 minute video based on this year's theme, 'Maths makes everything possible'.

The aim of the competition is for students to produce a video which explains a mathematical problem, or demonstrates an application of mathematics, using clear and precise mathematical language, in a creative and entertaining way. Students compete as a team in order to foster a positive environment, giving them the opportunity to reason and work collaboratively.
