This term has seen our school roll out a Physical Education unit on Tennis across all year levels. For some students, this is the second time that they have learnt about tennis in their schooling career at MSS, which has allowed them to build on previous skills.
Preps have been focusing on fundamental movement skills such as rolling, tracking and trapping, and underarm throwing. The older grades have been focused on establishing fundamental motor skills, but also refining and specialising movement skills such as forehand and backhand groundstrokes and strategic gameplay. Some of these skills have proved challenging for students, but equally rewarding, which has been clear to see when students' faces light up when they successfully demonstrate skills they previously found hard to tackle.
Work is currently being done in the planning of our school Sports Gala Day. This year, the event will be all about participating and having fun with both traditional athletics events and the introduction of rotational activities such as Netball, Futsal and Moriarty Soccer. Given our current situation with COVID-19, we are working hard on risk reduction strategies for our participants and there is a lot we are taking into account regarding the health and safety of all involved. More information regarding this Gala Day will be given via Facebook and the school newsletter in the coming weeks.
