Our school attendance for the start of the year is shown below in the data tables. As you all know by now from messages in the Sentinel, on school parades, in the Murri News, etc., our school attendance target is 95%. Our current data shows that we, as a school, are sitting on 89.2%. The tables below represent the data we report on and it appears in three categories; whole school group, Indigenous student group, and Non-Indigenous student group. As you can see, the <85% data is our area to improve on again this year. The target set by the FNQ region is 10% of students attending less than 85%, and as you can see, as a whole school group, we are at 23.6% of students attending less than 85%.
We have programs in place this year to support and encourage regular
attendance including ARTIE Attendance, Moriarty Football and many other
incentives in each year level.
The message is clear - MSS needs to improve on attendance. As a school we need to strive for our students to attend daily, unless students have a valid reason for not attending (sick, funeral, sorry business, family holiday, etc.) We will keep striving for improvement. Please do your bit to support the learning of your child, and send them to school everyday. EVERYDAY COUNTS!
Also a reminder that at the end of the term, students on 95% attendance or higher will be invited to come to the attendance celebration for their year level. Most likely, this will be wet play on the oval. This has changed from the 100% attendance requirement last year. Our target is 95% so we will start celebrating 95%.
If you are experiencing difficulties with your child not wanting to come to school, please contact the school and speak to your child's teacher, Marcia or myself.
