Even though Term 2 has not quite finished, teachers are starting to think about and plan for Term 3. In weeks 9 & 10, teachers are released in their cohort groups for a full day of planning. During this day, we ensure that each subject has an assessment task and marking guide, required areas of the Australian Curriculum are identified and covered, and a 10 week plan (that shows how students are extended or supported) is produced.
Here is a quick overview of the English units that students will be studying in Term 3:
Prep – Create a rhyme and respond to rhyming stories by explaining their likes and dislikes and identifying rhyming words.
Year 1 – Explore the characters, setting and language of narrative stories and create a character description.
Year 2 – Explore the characters, setting and language of a variety of fairy tales and write a text to persuade the reader which version of 'Cinderella' they prefer and why.
Year 3 – Create an alternative ending to the story Kumiko and the Dragon's Secret.
Year 4 – Read the book Roman of Rin by Emily Rodda and explain how the author of the quest novel represents the main character in an important event.
Year 5 – Read the book and watch the movie Storm Boy, write a comparison of a novel and its film adaptation and state a preference.
Year 6 – Argue a point of view about the effectiveness of literary and informative texts in conveying their message.
The Reading Café will recommence on Tuesday 21st July 2020 for years P-6. The Reading Café runs every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8:30 – 8:55am in the library. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to come along and practice their reading and/or complete homework. Every time a student visits, they receive a Milo, and every 10th visit earns them a cupcake.
Volunteers to assist in hearing students read are always appreciated. If you are able to assist, please join us in the library on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Remember what Dr Suess says:
