As I write this report for our final term 3 Sentinel I look back over term 3 with all the events, learning and challenges that came with it. It is always amazing to see how much we get through in a term and this term was no different.
While attendance has been tricky in 2020 due to COVID, it has been fantastic to see the individual growth of some students when it comes to improving attendance. With the work Marcia and Bianca do with the ARTIE ACADEMY challenges and incentives, it has been great to see improvement in student attendance this term. Our term 3 attendance across the school is 83.7%. The attendance of students attending <85% is 37.3% which is still way too high. The target for the region for this data is 10% so as you can see, Mareeba SS has some work to do around improving this percentage. We need family support to do this.
Celebrating term 3 95-100% attenders will happen this Friday, 18 September on the school oval. We have 331 students from Prep – Year 6 that have successfully reached our school target of 95%. We are celebrating with some wet play on the oval with lots of fun activities and hopefully a visit from our local fire department and their fire hoses!
The program looks like this:
11:50am – 12:20pm: Prep and year 1
12:20 – 12:50pm: Year 2, 3, 4
12:50 – 1:20pm: Year 5 and 6
Invitations for all students were put in teacher's pigeon holes yesterday and your child will bring the invitation home for you to see. Students attending the wet party will need to bring some clothes for wet play and a towel for Friday's activity. Students will return to MSS uniform after the wet play session. Only students who have been enrolled for the whole of term 3 have been invited to attend. We have used the data on our One School attendance rolls up until Friday 11 September to collatte this very special list of students. If you are new to our school, your child will have the opportunity to reach this target for term 4 and join our term 4 party.
Have a happy and safe holiday and I look forward to seeing you all again in week 1, term 4!
