At Mareeba State School, we believe that every child
can learn and will achieve.
Our school implements the Australian Curriculum in
English, Mathematics, History, Geography and Science through Curriculum into
the Classroom (C2C) units across all year levels - Prep to Year 6

Our teachers implement an Explicit Teaching Model of
Instruction that follows an ‘I do, we do, you do’ process. This research-based
model includes all the critical elements of successful learning experiences.
•I Do ……………..modelling and demonstration
•We Do …………shared practice, coaching, collaborating,
practice and sharing
•You Do …………individual practice
Every teacher at Mareeba State School implements daily
consolidation sessions as a teaching practice. Students learn essential
skills (through flashcards, rote-learning and chanting) and practise applying
these skills to ensure they are consolidated into each student’s long-term
memory.
Foundation programs of Spelling Mastery, Stars &
Cars (comprehension) and JEMMS/EMMS (mathematics) are also employed across the
school to ensure consistency and shared practice.
