Principal's Report

27/11/2019

Children being able to learn from their peers is an important part of the way learning occurs.  Having good student role models in the school is a very significant way in which children are able to observe how good choices are made.  Last week we announced the school leaders for 2020.  These students will play a very important role in the school over the next year, representing our school at both school and community functions but even more significantly being role models for their peers in the classroom, on the sporting field and in the playground.

Congratulations to the following students:

School Captains - Mahlay Harbrow & Jay Ariotti
Vice Captains - Sasha Grogan & Ethan Morris
Indigenous Leaders - Haylee Highbury & Kurtis Grant
Indigenous Ambassadors - Latina Poynter, Azroum Lucas & Tahnia Donahue

Sports Captains:

Granite - Jehaziel Kose & Harrison Roos
Barron - Ryan Jaszczyszyn & Meeshia McCurley
Mitchell - Ava Tuxworth-Pedersen & Cedric Mataio

Instrumental Music Captain - Annabelle Payne

Auslan Captain - Jeremy Athornkit

Well done to each of these students for successfully nominating for these important school positions.  I wish you a very rewarding year ahead.  Once again, many thanks to our current school leaders on a job well done this year!

On Thursday night we will celebrate further student achievement at our annual Awards Night.  The evening will commence at 6pm at the International Club.  We would love to see you there.

Last week I had the pleasure of hosting Member for Cook Ms Cynthia Lui and invited delegates in the official opening of the school's new prep classrooms Z block.  This $6million dollar building is a significant investment for our school and will be enjoyed by prep students and their families for generations to come.

With 3 weeks of school remaining, it is a very hectic time in our classrooms.  The school is busy preparing 2020 class groupings in preparation for the new school year.  As you can appreciate, this is a significant task that involves taking into consideration family friend requests, advice from each child's current 2019 teacher, and input from the school's associated support teams.  The school acknowledges that over the summer holiday period many families do relocate.  I ask families to inform the school if you are intending on changing schools in 2020 as this information will greatly assist the school in creating accurate class groupings for the new school year.

Even though the holidays are near, we still have three weeks of school remaining, and key curriculum concepts are still being taught to students every day in classrooms.  It is therefore extremely important that all children attend school all day, every day, right up until the end of the 2019 school year.
