Principal's Report

18/09/2019

What a wonderful way to finish the school term!  The past two weeks have been action-packed with more events still to come.  Firstly, thank you to all of you who came along to the parent-teacher-student interviews on Monday and Tuesday evenings.  Our school working hand-in-hand with you, our parents and carers, is what will make a significant difference to the outcomes of our students.  Your involvement and interest in your child's education means a great deal to them, but also to our teachers and school staff who appreciate the opportunity to discuss your child's learning progress with you.

This week saw the opening of our annual Art Show.  Many thanks also to the staff who organised this year's show, in particular the library staff.  If you haven't visited the library to see the wonderful student art on display, the art will be on show all week.  It's well worth the visit!

On Thursday we celebrate Under 8's Day.  This annual event is hugely popular and attracts families and visitors from across the community to join in the huge variety of fun-filled activities on offer.  Thank you to Val D, and Nadine, and their band of helpers for ensuring this great event is a success again this year.

NAIDOC Day will be celebrated on Friday this week.  All families and community members are invited to the school to join the celebrations and acknowledge the culture and heritage of the Mareeba community.

I would like to recognise the staff of Mareeba SS who consistently put in a huge effort to ensure events such as those that have occurred this week can take place.  Much of the preparation for these events occurs after hours and would not happen without the enthusiasm and support of staff for the children of our community.

Just a friendly reminder that term 4 sees the commencement of our Learn to Swim program for P-6.  Finally, we wish all of our families a safe and happy holiday and look forward to an enjoyable term four when more student success will be celebrated.  School will resume on Tuesday 8th October.  Please note that Monday 7th October is a public holiday.
