NAIDOC Day 2016

Mareeba SS celebrated NAIDOC Day on Thursday 21st July.  The day began with a traditional welcome by Indigenous Captains Kurtis Mulholland-Bryde and Mahkeeba Gutchen.  The crowd then enjoyed dances from our very own boys and girls dance group.  The students had been practicing their dancing with help from students from the high school.  It was great to see so many students take part.  The event was attended by all students, and many parents, teachers and community members also came along to enjoy the day and watch the students dance.

Later in the day, students in years 4 to 6 enjoyed playing football on the oval.  Many classes came down to cheer on the teams.  Students in years 1 to 3 enjoyed doing NAIDOC activities in the classroom.  It was fantastic to see students, parents and staff members celebrating NAIDOC Day.
