Term 3 in HPE

Term 3 has been a ripper of a term for sports at Mareeba State School.  Students have completed in a number of interschool competitions including the Mareeba Cluster Red Ball Tennis Gala Day (on 23rd August), the Wayne Srhoj Football Cup (30th August), the Mareeba Cluster T20 Blast Cricket Competition (6th September) and most recently the Chris Sheppard and Debbie Sheppard Rugby League Cup games (13th September).

Congratulations to all students who competed in these events, not only for the great results they achieved, but for the way they conducted themselves, particularly our girls A Division T20 Blast Cricket team whom received praise from teachers of other schools for their exceptional sportsmanship and manners.

As for results, one of our teams competing at the Red Ball tennis came runners up while both our boys and girls football (soccer) teams were victorious against their St. Thomas' teams.  The girls pipped their rivals 3-0, with Esther Cousley, Raychelle Srhoj and Hannah Shearer all getting points on the board, while the boys pulled off a 1-0 nail biter, with Christopher Holt scoring in the first half, and our boys defending several shots including a penalty shot saved by keeper Tybos Walsh.  Both our boys and girls A division T20 Blast Cricket teams were winners with the girls team going through undefeated.  These teams compete at the regional T20 Blast Competition finals in Cairns next term (18th October).

Finally, our girls Rugby League team pulled off a 24-8 victory, and our boys drew 14-14 against St. Thomas' teams last Friday.  Try scorers included Azariah Mataio (2), Dannica Mead (1), Rahsheeda Grainer-Collins (2), Samantha Cuzzubbo (1), Zion Schaaf (1), Zayne Wilkinson (1), and Malik Mellors (1 try and 1 conversion).
