Even though Term 1 has not quite finished, teachers are starting to think about and plan for Term 2.  In weeks 7, 8 & 9, teachers are released in their cohort groups for a full day of planning with their HODC.  During this day, we ensure that each subject has an assessment task and a marking guide, required areas of the Australian Curriculum are identified and covered, and a 10 week plan (that shows how students are extended or supported) is produced.

These planning days ensure consistency across cohorts, build the professional knowledge of all participants and assist with making sure that 'Every day at Mareeba State School every child is learning and achieving'.

Another way that we ensure curriculum consistency at Mareeba State School is through the Moderation process.  Teachers participate in regular moderation activities throughout the term where time is spent identifying the critical content of the task, ensuring our tasks are aligned with the Australian Curriculum and that all teachers have a common understanding of what knowledge and skills are required in each task.  Teachers are then able to use this shared knowledge to communicate clearly to the students what they are required to 'know and do' each term.

All teachers will be attending a moderation afternoon during week 9 where student work samples will be marked against the Australian Curriculum achievement standards to ensure all teachers have the same expectations when assessing student work.

The Reading Café operates every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8:30am in the library.  We have so many students coming along to practice their reading - over 270 students each week, it's fantastic 😊.  Volunteers are always welcome.   Thank you to those who have donated milk to the Reding Café.  If you are able to donate some long life milk please drop it into the office or the school library.
