Big Day Out at Mareeba SS

Our Mareeba SS Indigenous Dance Group had some help from Indigenous boys from Mareeba State High School.

On Wednesday 2nd March, we welcomed over 100 parents and community members into the school for our 'Big Day Out.'  The Indigenous Leaders welcomed visitors to the school and opened the ceremony, followed by a performance from the choir and traditional dancing by the school's Indigenous boys and girls dance groups.

Indigenous parents were welcomed into classrooms and also enjoyed a talk from Dr Otero from New Mexico, who discussed the importance of schools and families working together to achieve the best results.

Visitors enjoyed an afternoon tea and wrote their reflections and thoughts about the day on posters.  Overall, the day was a huge success and we thank the staff that helped to organise this event.
