2018 NAPLAN Staff Roles

9/05/2018

Valerie Dayes
Head of Curriculum (Prep to Year 3)
As the Head of Curriculum for Prep - Year 3, I have had a varied role in helping students and teachers prepare for NAPLAN.  During planning days for the Year 3 cohort we have discussed ways we can include quality teaching and learning experiences into our classrooms to prepare students everyday.  This includes making sure we have a sequential spelling program, ensuring our warm ups include revision of punctuation and grammar, giving students opportunities to respond to questions in the way they will be asked to in NAPLAN tests, and opportunities for writing on demand, so students get used to writing within a timeline.  My role has also included delivering parent information NAPLAN workshops, preparing teachers, ensuring that they have access to all the equipment students require to complete the tests, organising a NAPLAN timetable for the whole school so everyone is quiet and there is minimal movement during testing times, and rearranging specialist timetables so all classes still receive their HPE, Music, Drama or LOTE lessons during NAPLAN week.  On the days of NAPLAN I will also be assisting in a year 3 classroom.

Nadine Apps
Head of Curriculum (Year 4 to 6)
As the Head of Curriculum for Years 4 - 6 I have worked with the Year 5 cohort in preparation for NAPLAN.  This year, I have worked with the year 5 teachers during planning days and Curriculum Planning Meetings to develop quality lessons and materials to assist students in preparation for NAPLAN.  I have worked in classrooms, taking small groups of students and assisting them with their learning and areas of need to help improve their skills in reading, writing, grammar, punctuation and mathematics.  My role has also included delivering parent information NAPLAN workshops, preparing teachers, ensuring they have access to all the equipment students require to complete the tests, organising a NAPLAN timetable for the whole school so everyone is quiet and there is minimal movement during testing times, and rearranging specialist timetables so all classes still receive their HPE, Music, Drama or LOTE lessons during NAPLAN week.  On the days of NAPLAN I will also be assisting in a year 5 classroom.
